Nothing is worse than waking up in the middle of the night and thinking, “Gee… it’s cold in here!” and realizing your heat is off. Should this ever be the case, of course, Rand Wade Oil has got your back! We’re here for you—and our techs can get you back up and running, fast.
But before you call, try these troubleshooting tips: There could be an easy solution and you could avoid the expense of a service call.
Make sure your thermostat is set to a temperature at least 5° above room temperature and set to “heat.” Is it the batteries? Try installing fresh ones.
Did the switch for your heating system accidentally get turned off? This happens more often than you’d think. Don’t overthink it, just turn it on.
If you are on will-call for heating deliveries, and you haven’t checked your heating oil tank gauge in a while, you may have run out of fuel. Check your tank levels to confirm—and call us if you’re empty.
Circuit breakers can easily trip. Check the breaker that your heating system is on and turn it on if it’s off.
When the air filter on your furnace gets clogged entirely, the system will shut down. Replace it—and keep a note on your calendar to check it once a month, at least.
If you have a steam boiler, check the water level gauge. It should be at least half-full. Call us if it isn’t. If you have a hot water boiler, skip this step.
If none of the previous step’s work, push and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds. Only do this ONCE. Doing it more than once floods the combustion chamber with too much heating oil. That’s an expensive repair job on top of any other repairs you may need.
If none of those steps resolves the problem, call us right away at 252-653-4402 and we’ll dispatch a technician to get you up and running as soon as possible.
Some heating system problems are hard to predict. But preventing a fuel run-out is easy if you sign up for our FREE automatic delivery service. That’s right—there’s no charge for this service, and you’ll get propane deliveries without ever having to monitor your propane tank or pick up the phone. We’ll keep tabs on your average usage patterns and the current weather conditions to deliver your fuel when you’re at about one-quarter full —with plenty of time to make sure you’re warm and comfortable in your Greene County, North Carolina home.
And if you haven’t already, call us to get your heating system tuned-up before the heart of the winter season arrives.
